Meeting Minutes

The Newtown Cultural Arts Commission (NCAC) held a meeting on Thursday, January 22, 2009 at 7:00 PM in the Old Courtroom at Edmond Town Hall, 45 Main Street, Newtown, CT.

Members Present:  Martin Blanco, Jennifer Johnston, Rob Kaiser, Donna Mangiafico, Linda Watson

Members Absent:  Debbie Aurelia, Joe Grasso, Marina Moscovici

Auxiliary Members Present:  Jennifer Rogers

Guests Present:  Bob Bonvini, Amy Mangold

Jennifer Johnston called the meeting to order at 7:05 PM.

Approval of the October 23, November 20, December 9, December 18, and December 23 minutes were tabled to the February 26, 2009 meeting as a quorum was not reached.

Officer Reports:

Jennifer Johnston introduced Amy Mangold, Director of Parks and Recreation.  Ms. Mangold shared an opportunity to collaborate on summer concerts and performances in a proposed amphitheatre to be incorporated into the trail system at Fairfield Hills.

Jennifer Johnston reported that the Board of Selectmen approved a $2,000 budget for the NCAC for the 2009-2010 year.

Jennifer Johnston reported that the appointment process to fill the NCAC member vacancy has begun.  Marina Moscovici has not submitted her letter of resignation yet. Therefore, the Board of Selectmen cannot act on filling her position.

The CT Film Festival was discussed.  Jennifer Johnston will approach local banks and businesses and Martin will draft a donation form for corporate and private donations.  Martin Blanco will also invite Tom Carruthers to speak in support of the project at the February 2, 2009 Board of Selectmen meeting.

Jennifer discussed a grant opportunity with the Connecticut Commission on Culture and Tourism.  Jennifer and Martin will work together on the application.

Martin Blanco reported that the next Flagpole Radio Café will be February 7th.  He also announced that the Inn at Newtown purchased ads for the next three shows.

Linda Watson reviewed the revenue and expense report.

Rob Kaiser discussed sponsoring the annual Earth Day Artists Competition which encourages local artists of all ages to create works of art from recycled materials.

The next regular meeting will be held on Thursday, February 26, 2009, 7:00 PM in the Old Courtroom at Edmond Town Hall, 45 Main Street, Newtown, CT.
